For some people, fear of dental work keeps them from receiving much-needed treatment. In fact, 15 percent of the U.S. population experiences some form of dental anxiety. Fortunately, at Heresi Dental Care, we offer IV sedation to help ease anxiety and provide comfort for our patients
If you struggle with dental anxiety, be sure to consult our team to determine the right type of sedation for your unique needs. There a variety of options and what you receive will be based on your level of anxiety and the type of procedure you are having. IV sedation, also known as conscious sedation, does not put you fully to sleep, but it does make you less aware of what is going on around you during your treatment.
IV sedation is typically used for patients who are very anxious about a procedure. It works quickly, it's easy to adjust the dose, and patients will not remember what happened during treatment. During treatment, you should be able to follow basic commands, and you will be able to breathe normally. If your procedure also requires a local anesthesia, that will be provided after the sedation has taken effect.
Although IV sedation will not put you completely under, you will feel very groggy for some time afterward. Be sure to have someone bring you to the dentist and drive you home, and do not plan anything for the remainder of the day.
Our knowledgeable team will help you decide whether or not IV sedation is the right option for you. For more information, please give us a call today at (540) 249-1849.
